Introduction - Building on my Interests
Welcome to my website section on all things Finance, Markets, and Economics. In this section I hope to track my journey and my learning in these this subject areas. I have long been interested in financial markets and the world of business for the role that they plan and the impact they have on the global economy. My interest in this subject area stems from the fact that they are world changing in nature. The major economic developments that determine the fate of the world, such as the 2008 financial crisis, the Arab Spring, the US-China Trade War, the Russian invasion of Ukraine... all of these major life-changing events have their origin from movements in markets and global economic trends.
I have always been fascinated by the constant fluctuations and the various factors that drive markets and hope that taking on a more direct role in this area will help me further my knowledge of global trends, and their far-reaching impacts. I believe that the best way to truly understand the markets is through direct exposure and engagement. I will be doing so by exploring ways to build, at first, basic strategic portfolios, build and develop economic research, and eventually take active positions in the market.
While I eventually hope to have a good enough understanding of these subject areas to actively participate in the public discourse on other platforms (such as Twitter and Youtube), for now I will be sticking to my own personal blog to give me the time and medium to learn and grow. I have used as a photo background at the top of the page a world map with key cities dotted in purple. These are the cities where trends originate, where business, financial, and economic participants meet, interact, and make sometimes world-changing decisions. In these cities, our entire world is molded and shaped. The decisions send ripple effects throughout the entire world, the vast majority are nullified in their effect. Yet ever so often, decisions made in these key cities reinforce and build on one another to become catalysts for world change, for the better or for the worse. Across oceans, deserts, and forests, these decisions have an affect on everyone, to some degree or another. Wouldn't it be nice to understand the world that these decisions are made in?
Below are the different parts of this section on Finance, Markets, and Economics. Please feel free to click on any of them below to learn more about the vairous projects I have taken on.

Investments for the Distant Future (IDF) - Climate Change
Welcome to the first part of my series "Investments for the Distant Future" (IDF), where I seek to continuously build and further develop a portfolio to position investments to benefit in the very distant future. In this series I look to the long-term global trends that are likely to affect our global economic system and market developments. In this first part of my series I am taking a deep-dive into the topic of Climate Change and how its progression and development will affect markets and how investors, including myself, should be best positioned. Click on the title above to learn more about my unique approach and my first attempt at building a diversified investment portfolio.
Trading Journal - The Start of My Journey
In this section I will present updates and reflect on my active trading portfolio. This section includes updates about my up-to date positions, my thoughts on the current state of the markets and reflections of my previous performance. Since I have been interested in financial makrets for a long-time, this trading journal will serve as a medium for me to recount my experience and learn from my experience as quickly as possible. I believe that the best way to truly understand what is happening in this complicated world is to engage with it directly and take on exposure at a very young age. While I hope to be good enough to one day sustainable and consistant profits that is not the current objective of this undertaking. The sole primary goal is to learn and gain experience. Please click on the title above to see how I have progressed and the trades I have made throughout my journey!
A Valuation Case Study - Real Estate Opportunity Example
In November 2022 I stumbled upon an interesting segment of my local newspaper about a real estate property for sale. The investment in question was an appartment of 3 rooms with around 69 square meters of space on one of the nicest streets of our small town. Yet this wasn't any typical appartment for sale, it was a kind of purchasing option that I believe is very unique to France, something called a "Viager Occupé". The purchasing option is quite crude in nature, essentially the option provides the opportunity to buy the appartment at a significant discount to its fair value but not have ownership of it until the occupier...welll... passes away. That is, the owner of the appartment, in this case being a 76 year old woman, is able to sell her appartment (for a dicounted price) but still gets to live in it for free until she passes away or is moved into a retirement home. This is beneficial and serves as an opportunity for both engaged parties. But how does this market function and meet to equilibrium? How does one value a "Viager Occupé"? What would be an attractive price for this "option". Click on the title to learn about the apporach I have taken to put a value on it and explain the details of this market.
